Gunvor Rasmussen (f.1981) is an illustrator based in Bergen, Norway, where she also runs a gallery/studio in one of the old houses at the UNESCO World Heritage site Bryggen.
Gunvor studied illustration at Central St. Martins in London and visual communication at Bergen Academy of Art and Design. In 2007 she debuted with a children’s book named “Godnattboka” (The Goodnight Book), which later developed into a series of five books. Besides children’s books, she also works as an illustrator for organizations, stage shows and magazines.
For Gunvor Rasmussen, illustration has always been her greatest passion. In her illustrations there live all kinds of fantastic creatures, from different types of monsters to animals from mythological legends. Although it is said that eyes are the windows to the soul, Gunvor scarcely draws pupils in the eyes of her characters. Nevertheless, her princes and princesses, vampires and zombies, gnomes and elves are lively and frisky.
Gunvor’s most favoured tools are watercolor with pencil and ink. In 2007 the editor from Skald publishing house found her and together they started the big project of creating an anthology of five Nynorsk (New Norwegian) children’s books. 9 years later, she has five fully illustrated story books consisting about 100 newly written stories and fairy tales under her belt. Among the five books, two have won silver in The Most Beautiful Books of the Year and one Nynorsk children’s literature award. In 2017 two books in the series - “Monsterboka” (The Monster Book) and “Eventyreboka” (The Fairytale Book) - have been translated into Chinese and will be published in China.
This time, along with illustrations from the books, Gunvor will also present a series of newly developed illustration projects that include a series of works about seafaring culture and the oceans.
